What is Plan N?
This MediGap plan is becoming very popular and offers all the benefits that Plan F and G offers except for a few exclusions. Plan N and most other plans do not cover the Part B annual deductible of $240 in 2024.
The Advantages of Plan N:
Plan N is significantly cheaper than Plan F and about $15-30 cheaper per month compared to Plan G. Also, Plan N usually has modest annual rate increases compared to Plan G and F. Plan N rate increases typically averages 0-5% per year whereas Plan F and G rate increases can average between 0-20% annually depending on the insurance company’s claim history, inflation, and other internal operational expense factors.
The Disadvantages of Plan N:
In addition, Part B excess charges are not covered with Plan N. However, this is usually a non-issue for many people since most doctors in the U.S. do not charge this excess fee, which is an additional 15% charge above the Medicare approved claims amount. The other disadvantages are the $20 copayment for some doctor office visits and up to $50 copayment for emergency room visits (this is waived if you are admitted into the hospital). Keep in mind that these office visits can add up if you develop a chronic illness and require frequent office visits.
